A Reminder from Marcus Aurelius
“Observe what nature requires and allow nothing to distract you.
You have searched and searched, but the good life has eluded you. You have not found the good life in reason, wealth, fame, or pleasure. Not anywhere. Where is the good life, then?
It lies in doing what nature requires. How might you do what nature requires? By deeply considering the principles from which you act. What principles? Principles that tell you good from bad.
The first principle is that nothing is good that does not lead toward justice, moderation, strength, and freedom. The bad is that which leads away from these.” (Meditations 8.1.)
