It was the black soil,
the delta of Egypt,
kēme, the soil itself that
transmuted muck to food.
Then to Arabic, al-kīmiyā,
the dense & creative &
how that might be gold.
And thus it was the mind,
crucible of the spirit:
al- anchoring the infinite,
— the fertile. Always,
always fertile. Changing.
